howling wolf / john taylor

The painting by Howling Wolf is obviously more abstract. The painting by John Taylor is representational of realism. It shows a structured, focused way of thinking. Everything is literal. Howling Wolf displays more of a connection to spirituality, more of a connection to the earth. As if he's thinking of them as viewers as well. John Taylor's painting portrays the Indians only as men, as warriors. They are in the shadows. While in Howling Wolf's they are in the light and there are mostly women. This tells me that they view their women more highly than is shown in Taylor's work.
