FRIDAY MAY 6, 7PM AT STREGA 310 S.ARLINGTON

Artist Statement

Most of my work deals with humanity in some way, whether it is iconographic, biographic or an abstract expression of emotion. My work takes shape through the desire to combine beauty and tragedy, life and death and is often inspired by the people I love. This body of work, titled: Bedlamites, was conceived when I made a gift for a friend who is a fan of skater, Lance Mountain. When I found the image of him with a black eye, I knew it would be the catalyst for an even larger project.

Some of the images were found online, some were donated, and some were photographed by me. Many of these characters are "Reno-Famous".. artists and musicians who have made a name for themselves in the Reno area.

Printmaking has become one of my great loves, with credit due to a wonderful teacher who has made me excited about the medium. The Frank Sinatra piece was done with solar plate and chine colle’. It was designed to resemble a Las Vegas marquee, with the message in mind that behind all the glitz and glamour there is a dark side. While there is often intent and purpose in my work, sometimes it just comes together accidentally. That is the beauty of art.
